Wave Mechanics DJs play White Rabbit

Our first gig at local underground fave White Rabbit was a success! And the DR lived to tell about it…

Suffering from some kind of mystery illness, Peter (AKA DJ FLU BUG) managed his way thru an eclectic, funky set, turning the decks over to Usami for some banging hard house.

Next up was Mr. Tomato! (Sadly the DR had to take some of his own medicine and missed the set, so we’ll leave it to you to post your comments on his performance. My guess is — it ripped!)

Saturday with Buyi Band

(Either JavaScript is not active or you are using an old version of Adobe Flash Player. Please install the newest Flash Player.)What a pleasure to find ourselves in a small bar near the Drum Tower (a historical site older than our home country!) to enjoy one of the best bands we’ve ever heard - Buyi Band.

This foursome was super tight and we especially fell in love with their lead guitarist who also played the guzheng - a traditional Chinese instrument that blended so well with rock n roll it brought tears to the eyes. Abdul Baha said “music is the ladder to the soul” - we certainly felt ourselves lifted towards the heavens last night.

Friday night at Angel

(Either JavaScript is not active or you are using an old version of Adobe Flash Player. Please install the newest Flash Player.)We had a blast rocking out to DJ Dan at Angel Club on Friday. Dan is an old friend of Thome’s, from way back in the early days of the California rave scene. (Sadly I was using a new camera phone for the first time, so the photos of them together didn’t come out so good.)

Dan rocked the house for 3 hours. It was awesome to hear him drop so many wicked, grindy house beats. He definitely deserves his DJ Mag ranking.

first night out clubbing

We hit a few clubs last night… VERY thrilled to see how vibrant the scene is here! We went to Wish in the Li Du area where our friend Daniel was mixing up groovy Salsa tunes — Dr Atomic even tried out some dancing lessons! (Hey, what the heck… “when in Beijing!”) If you like salsa, then head down to Wish Friday nights. (We here the food is great too.)
Our favorite of the evening was a brand new venue called “Club Camp” which featured the Acupuncture Records crew. Hope to post some pictures soon (if those photographers get in touch!) but definitely check out the club and the Acupuncture crew’s website. Totally rippin’ techno!

Greetings from Beijing!

We’re settling in Beijing, China at the beginning of November — looking forward to making new Chinese friends and sharing our music with you!
